City of Illusions

Baloraziorik ez

Third novel of the Hainish cycle. We follow Falk, a bewildered man who came out of the forest. No memories, no origin story. He's taken in by the locals and rehabilitated. Eventually he embarks on a quest that for the most part reads like a typical hero's journey. It's the final act - Falk's entering the city of Es Toch, and encountering a man called Remarren - that makes this totally worth it. An enthralling mix of betrayal, psychiatric collapse, telepathy, interrogation and counter-interrogation: and all the while the vexing question of Earth's true custodianship (and the true name of Falk's homeworld sun) lingers in the background.

No one has any excuse not to read the Hainish books
