Great book about school education

This is the story of Tara Westover, a young woman growing up in the mountains of Idaho, living with a very religious family and a violent brother. She didn't see a school from inside until she was 17 years old.

Its a very touching and breathtaking story. The family is struggling and they have two serious car crashes, both under almost similar circumstances, so its obvious that they didn't learn from the first crash to avoid the second.

Tara tells you how she grew up in a big family, one of the brothers turned to become violent and putting emotional pressure on her. She has a bright mind, and will go to Cambridge and Harvard to study and at the end she will have a PhD. Nevertheless, her family situation is giving her nightmares and she seeks for counseling to find her own identity.

A great book. Highly recommended reading.

In the Shadow of a Mountain

About being raised in an abusive home. About learning there's a bigger world out there. About the incredible difficultly in realizing that so much of who you are is coping mechanisms to survive the house you grew up in.

Tara tells us of the world created by her father, mother, and other family members and her slow escape from it, even when she didn't want to leave. Absolutely worth the read.
