‘Chevette never stole things, or anyway not from other people, and definitely not when she was working.’

So how's she going to explain the sunglasses? And not just any sunglasses, but this one, very special, very expensive pair, loaded with the data that threaten to utterly transform her city of San Francisco, State of Northern California, in the year 2005.

Organic prose of a digital world

This is hardly a bad novel, but I wasn't gripped the way Neuromancer and its follow-ups, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive did it for me, nor the great short stories in Burning Chrome. Either way, Gibson's prose feels so organic, even though he introduces new concepts and slang regularly. I'll probably pick up Idoru in the near future anyway, just because I adore his world-building and his rowdy but fun characters.
